She says obedience to sponsors and senior members was expected, with shunning or exclusion as possible consequences of refusing. She describes restrictions on outside meetings and professional care, including pressure to discard prescribed medication.
Her account also describes losing friendships when she left. She writes about continuing difficulty with trust and decision-making, alongside gratitude for finding sobriety again and having further chances to rebuild her life.
